One autograph letter signed from Ellen Kean to Mrs. Scott (1) and 3 autograph letters signed from Charles Kean to [Mr.] Scott (2-4). (1): written from Buxton and dated simply June 8th (no year indicated), refers to Charles Kean's illness. (2): dated August 26, 1859, expresses desire that Scott hear Kean's farewell address. Also refers to a November engagement in Brighton. (3): written from Southampton on October 20, 1859, gives the schedule the upcoming November engagement at Brighton Theatre which included performances of The wife's secret, Louis XI, and Hamlet. Also mentions provincial tour stops in Portsmouth and Winchester. (4), written from Portsmouth on November 2, 1859, concerns dinner plans during Kean's stay in Brighton. Indicates that he is "particularly anxious to see the house full" for the performance of Louis XI, "as the play has never been acted in Brighton." Also, a newspaper clipping of an obituary for Ellen Kean, with manuscript note August 21, 1880.
